Hello, it's me!
Hello Substack
Let’s get this show on the road. To know me is to know I love to write with every fibre of my being. So let’s bring it back.
I love the Substack dispatches that glide into my email inbox weekly and monthly. So of course I wanted to join the party. Fairy bread not included.
This season personally has been one of upheaval and uncertainty. A popular job interview question is “where do you see yourself in five years time?” I like to joke on this after the moment, reflecting that I don’t know where I see myself in five minutes, yet alone five years. It resonates a lot at the moment. As someone who thrives with structure and familiar patterns of routine, it is far from ideal. For now, it is what it is and that’s okay.
So, fortnightly I will do dispatches on what I’m reading, watching, listening to and liking. Go all 2010s blogger on you all. Anyway, if that is your vibe, keep reading and hit the subscribe button.
Reading: The Vaster Wilds x Lauren Groff: It’s been a while since I read any of Lauren Groff’s work and I have been instantly reminded why I love her writing. Visually arresting, at times grotesque and always alluring. This one is stunning so far.
Watching: Scream Queens, Season 2 on Disney+. I am too much of a wuss to commit to American Horror Story. Though I really do want to give Coven a try one day, if only for Stevie Nicks. So for me, Scream Queens is like AHS lite. Some thrills and scares with ridiculous plot. Fantastic, witty and topical one-liners that give me life. I love it. So far there’s only been two seasons but a third is rumoured to be in development so fingers crossed. Bring back the Chanels.
Listening: My Spotify Daylists. I love this new feature. Freshly generate playlists three time s a day. Occasionally they will throw in some songs I don’t recognise because I am a creature of habit with my music, but most of the time these playlists hit. Though I do get a disturbingly high rate of Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift so maybe I really am a thirty-something teenaged girl.
Liking: Kosas Wet Stick Moisture Lip Shine I rarely wear lipsticks these days, unless I’m performing in a show (rare) or going out. To be honest, I don’t really wear makeup anywhere near as much as I used to. Anyway, I wanted a no-frills, tinted lip balm for a while and this delivers the goods. I have the shade Malibu and it is hydrating with enough pigment to pretend you have lipstick with just a smidgen of gloss on top. Nobody’s gonna know. As an aside, Kosas is one of my favourite brands. I also love their lip glosses and setting powders as well.
Well that’s a wrap for now. See you all in 2 weeks!
